My 27th birthday.
On May 29, 2009, I turned 27. I’ve always been a big birthday person, but this was different. I had been waiting for my 27th year for as long as I had been able to comprehend the thought of ever being 27. I can’t explain why, it just seemed like a magic number. Not close enough to 30 to be painful and boring, but old enough to be established, to have life all figured out. Needless to say, I had high expectations for this year – but luckily, I also had major prospects. And so far, almost halfway into my 27th year, I have not been disappointed. It hasn’t all been easy – in fact, I’ve experienced some of the most painful moments in my life this year (read the blog to find out more). But they’ve been paired with the most wonderful moments I’ve ever experienced.
So, I’ll organize this blog according to the major things going on during Year 27 (in no order of importance):
1. My engagement (and subsequent wedding planning) to the most wonderful man on the planet.
2. My two-month assignment with the CDC in Pretoria, South Africa.
3. My tennis team’s major successes, including an impressive (though painful) showing at the USTA Southern Sectionals.
4. My appointment to the board of Girls on the Run of Atlanta – an organization near and dear to my heart. (But for info on that you’ll have to check out the GOTR blog I manage: www.gotratlanta.wordpress.com.)
5. My attempt (and success? we shall see…) to complete a half marathon in under 2 hours.
